Octopus Paul dies in Germany

Shocked to hear the news that Paul the celebrity octopus, who became famous during the football World Cup earlier this year in South Africa with his ‘match predictions’, has died.

A statement released today by the aquarium in Oberhausen, a town in Germany, where Paul lived, and reported by various agencies said the so-called psychic octopus had passed away in the night.

Paul was discovered dead in his enclosure today. Management and staff of the aquarium were said to be devastated by the discovery.

Gary Coleman is in critical condition in Utah hospital

Thursday, Gary Coleman is in critical condition and has been hospitalized at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. Coleman, 42, is a former child TV star who is best known for his role on the TV show “Diff’rent Strokes” which aired from 1978-1986.Coleman has lived in Santaquin, Utah since 2005; Santaquin is located just 55 miles south of Salt Lake City. Coleman came toUtah to star in the movie Church Ball and met his wife, Shannon Price on the set of the movie. They were married in 2007.In February of this year, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge in Utah. He also suffers from kidney problems and has had two transplants. Coleman has also had financial and legal problems throughout most of his adult life.

Plane crash in mangalore on saturday

Flight IX-892 goes down in a wooded valley about six miles from the Mangalore airport. Six people are pulled out alive from the wreckage.

An Air India flight from Dubai crashed Saturday morning in the city of Mangalore after apparently overshooting the runway, killing at least 160 people.

Televised images showed rescuers carrying limp bodies up a wooded slope and wreckage still burning hours after the crash, with bodies and the nearby ground covered with white foam emergency workers used to fight the blaze.

There were reportedly 166 passengers and crew on the Boeing 737-800 jet, which was believed to be 2 or 3 years old, a relatively new addition to the company's fleet.

The rescue operation was complicated by rain and the topography: Flight IX-892 went down in a wooded valley about six miles from the runway.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known. An investigation was underway, and authorities were searching the debris field for the "black box" flight recorder.

Air traffic control reportedly received no distress message or other communication from the pilot suggesting the aircraft was having mechanical or operational problems. The pilot was reportedly a Russian expatriate, and the copilot was Indian.

The runway at the Mangalore airport is relatively short and has what's known as a "tabletop" layout, with a flattened area carved out of mountainous terrain overlooking a valley, giving pilots a relatively small margin of error.

The airport, which opened to international flights four years ago, was shut down after the disaster, which occurred about 6:15 a.m. local time.

"This is a major calamity," V.S. Acharya, home minister for the state of Karnataka, said to the CNN-IBN television network.

Six people who were pulled out alive were rushed to a government hospital with a burn unit, about 10 miles away. TV pictures showed a fireman carrying a body up a slope with difficulty, a colleague pushing him to help him ascend.

One survivor, Umer Farooq, said after being admitted to the hospital that "there was a loud noise, followed by fire."

"I managed to jump out of a broken window," he said.

TV images showed more than 15 firetrucks, 20 ambulances and 100 rescue workers standing at the periphery of the wreckage, with dense smoke billowing from the small valley and part of a mangled wing resting almost vertically on a slope.

The crash could be the deadliest in India since a November 1996 midair collision between a Saudi airliner and a Kazakh cargo plane near New Delhi that killed 349 people.

Air India, a former monopoly with an aging fleet and a poor on-time record, has struggled in recent years to compete with lower-cost private airlines as the industry has been deregulated. Air India Express, its low-cost arm, is part of its effort to respond to a changing competitive landscape as it struggles under a $3.3-billion debt load.

In October, the airline hit the headlines after pilots and a flight crew got into a fistfight in front of startled passengers.

The state-owned airline has had several mishaps over the years. Safety expert Mohan Ranganathan, a former Air India pilot, said recently that India badly needs an independent regulator and safety board.

In June 2008, Air India Flight IC-162 from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, overshot the Mumbai airport by 45 miles after its pilots fell asleep. They were jolted awake when air traffic controllers caused a loud buzzer to go off in the cockpit.

Flights from Dubai to other parts of India tend to be crowded with Indians returning from manual labor and service jobs in the Middle East, as well as with high-tech professionals and traders.

Air travel has rebounded in India and the region after last year's slump as economies have rebounded. India saw about 4.1 million air travelers in January, a 23% increase, according to the Civil Aviation Ministry.

India is expected to be among the fastest-growing air travel markets in the world over the next 10 years, Airbus, the world's biggest plane maker, said in a recent statement. Over the next 20 years, Indian carriers will need 1,030 new aircraft worth $138 billion, it said.

‘SubhaPradam’: Viswanath directed Naresh film titled

It is already known that K Vishwanath is directing a new film with Allari Naresh in the lead role.

The movie is now titled as ‘Subha Pradam’. Earlier ‘Sumaduram’ was the title under consideration. However, Subha Pradam’ is now confirmed.

Manjari Fadnis is playing the female lead in the film.The film is being produced by Gopal Krishnamurthy and Pila Nila Tilak jointly.

‘Sri Sri Raja Rajeshwari Films’ banner will present the movie. Music for the film is being scored by Mani Sharma and Ananth Sriram and Ramajogayya Sastry are the lyricists.

‘Vedam’ multi starrer postponed to June 2010

The much-awaited multi-starrer of this season, ‘Vedam’ has been postponed again to the June month. Earlier the film was supposed to hit the screens on May 27^th. According to the inside buzz, the movie was postponed since Gopichand’s ‘Golimaar’ is releasing on the same day. Since there will be healthy competition among the two films, director Krish has decided to postpone it.

Vedam is being directed by Krish and is being produced by Devineni and Sobha Yarlagadda jointly. Arka Media banner will present this flick. M.M. Keeravani is composing the music. The film has cinematography by Gnanasekhar. The film has Allu Arjun, Manchu Manoj, Anushka, Lekha Washington and Deeksha Seth in the central roles.

‘Golimaar’ releasing on May27 with 500 prints

Gopichand, Priyamani starrer ‘Golimaar’ is all set to hit the screens world-wide on 27^th May. The latest news is that the film is releasing with 500 prints. Golimaar is being directed by Puri Jagannath and is being produced by Bellamkonda Suresh under the banner, Sri Sai Ganesh Productions.

L.V.Prasad started his carerre by working for a monthly salary of 30 rupees in the Imperial Light Company. Ardeshir Irani was the owner of the company and was trying to make the first talkie in India. Irani made Alam Ara, the first talkie in India and the first Hindi talkie in which Prasad played the role of an extra. Prasad also made an acquaintance with H. M. Reddy, who was assisting Irani. Gaganam: Nagarjuna without Heroine

Nagarjuna is doing a bilingual movie titled as "Gaganam" in telugu and it is "Payanam" in Tamil. First time Nagarjuna is doing this film without a heroine.

Mahesh babu to do Rajamouli new film 2010

Prince Mahesh Babu is going to act under the direction of Mega director SS Rajamouli. These two had a series of discussions for a couple of days recently and decided at a strategic agreement to do a film together but it takes time to materialize this project.

Presently director Rajamoli directing Maryada Ramanna film with Sunil and his next project is with Prabhas. Mahesh Babu presently doing a film with Trivikram Srinivas and his next film will be directed by Seenu Vytla. He has also announced another flick titled ‘Mr. Perfect’ in the direction of Surender Reddy.

Cyclone Laila welcomes heavy rains to Coastal Zones

New Delhi: Heavy rains are likely to lash coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu during the next two days as cyclone 'Laila' which further intensified and lay centred in the Bay of Bengal around 400 km east of Chennai, is expected to cross the Andhra coast on Thursday.

"Latest satellite images and radar observation indicates that cyclonic storm 'Laila' lies centred at about 400 km east of Chennai. This system is likely to intensify further and move in a west northwesterly direction and cross the Andhra coast between Ongole and Vishakapatnam in the early hours of Thursday," Met officials here told PTI.

They said scattered heavy and isolated very heavy rains would occur over coastal Andhra Pradesh and isolated heavy rain may also occur over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from tonight.

According to them, strong wind with speeds reaching 65-75 kmph was likely to commence along Andhra Coast from tonight. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph may begin along north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast from tonight.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea as strong surface winds from Southwesterly to Westerly direction with speeds reaching 45-55 kmph were likely off the Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast.

Actress remuneration 2010

Telugu cinema actress rates have come down due to the stiff competition in the film industry. It is a fact now that the actresses are coming for inaugural functions, social parties and gatherings for meager amount. Below are the rates of Telugu cinema actresses and the fee they charge for a film, cameo roles and for their appearances at functions.

Anushka- Andhra mirchi Anushka Shetty charges Rs 92 lakhs without taxes and the producer has to shell out transportation charges as extras. She is in great demand in Tollywood and Kollywood and so is demanding this fee. She charges around Rs 2 lacs for attending functions and parties, when invited.

Shriya- seducing beauty Shriya Saran is demanding Rs 53 lacs for each film; she has a separate rate for bollywood films. She charges Rs 83,000 for attending functions, when invited.

Trisha- Trisha’s value has come down, but her PR never accepts that. This is all due to her mother Uma, who fingers in each and every matter, relating to her daughter’s profession. Trisha is demanding Rs 75 lakhs flat and rarely attends functions in Hyderabad. She says that she does not want o lose her star brand by attending inaugural functions. However, she has to attend the promotions of her brands, which she endorsees.

Ileana- Ileana who once demanded Rs 1.18 cr is charging Rs 80 lacs – Rs 92 lacs, without taxes. Transportation charges are extra. She charges Rs 1 lac for attending jewellery shop openings.
Nayantara- Nayantara is demanding Rs 70 lacs for a film and her demand depends on the banner, hero with which she is acting. She acts for Rs 15 lacs in mallu films.

Namitha- Namitha demands more for inaugural functions. Her PR when contacted demands Rs 2 lacs for attending jewelry showroom inauguration. Her film remuneration is in between Rs 25 lacs – Rs 35 lacs. She fetched Rs 15 lacs for ‘Simha’ and demands only Rs 10 lacs for Mallu films.

Bindhu Madhavi, Poonam Kaur, Navneeth Kaur, Priya Anand, Suhani, demands Rs 23,000 for attending inaugural functions. They charge Rs 5-8 lacs per film.

Mumaith Khan demands Rs 1 lac for attending a inaugural function. However, her film remuneration is under wraps.

"Merupu" | ram Charan

Ram Charan’s fourth film ‘Merupu’ under the direction of Dharani has been launched today at Rama Naidu studios. Several celebrities of T-Town graced the event. Mega Star Chiranjeevi had sounded the clap board for the muhurat shot while Ramanaidu switched on the camera.‘Merupu’ is being produced by NV Prasad and Paras Jain jointly. Kajal Agarwal plays female lead in the film. The film has dialogues by Paruchuri brothers, music by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography by PC Sreeram art by Thota Tharani and editing by VT Vijayan.

On the event Dharani said, “This is my first movie in this banner. There are big expectations on Ram Charan Tej after Magadheera and we prepared script to match the expectations. Merupu means lightening strike. There will be high voltage in this movie. The story of the movie is about how a youngster achieved his goal. There will be lots of commercial elements in this movie.”

Devi Sri Prasad, music director of the film said, “I liked this title a lot. I am working for first time with Dharani. He is a musical lover. I am excited about working for a movie which has PC Sreeram working for it. I am a good friend of Ram Charan Tej since childhood. He used to come to my house and play with musical instruments. It is a good story and the sequences for songs are very good. Ram Charan Tej is known for legendry dances and I am preparing songs to match that image. There will be six songs.”

Ram Charan Tej said, “It is a good commercial script. I felt good after listening to the story and it caters to all the sections of audiences. I am happy that PC Sreeram is working for my film. I knew NV Prasad since I was a kid. Devi Sri Prasad is my childhood friend. I listened to the tracks and I liked them. I am doing a unique character in this movie. It will be identified by today’s youth. The story is about how a youngster becomes victorious. There is a rhythm in the story. Producers are spending good amount of money on this movie.”

Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau expired

Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here today after suffering a heart attack earlier in the morning.

Ms Rau, 75, was reportedly found unconscious in the bathroom of her suite at the Jodhpur House here and was rushed to the hospital, where she died some time later, official sources said.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi was amongst those who visited the hospital after hearing of the news. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot rushed from Jaipur to Delhi on hearing of Ms Rau's death.

Ms Rau, a former President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, had earlier served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. She was transferred to Rajasthan in January this year after the death of then Governor S K Singh.

Ms Rau is survived by two daughters. Her husband, S Anand Rau, had predeceased her.

Ms Rau was born on March 4, 1935 in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, to a family of freedom fighters. She had a Master's degree in Political Science and a post-graduate diploma in Indian Classical Music.

She had served as Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women and as a Minister in the State Government four times, looking after the portfolios of Revenue and Cultural Affairs, Cooperation and Tourism, Education and Sports & Youth Affairs. She was Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly in 1979. She was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999 from Wardha in Maharashtra.

Ms Rau served as President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee from 1984-80 and then again from June, 2004 till July, 2008. She also handled a variety of assignments in the All India Congress Committeee (AICC).

Ms Rao was Governor of Himachal Pradesh from July 19, 2008 till January this year. In between, after Mr S K Singh's death, she served for some time as the acting Governor of Rajasthan from December 3, 2009 before being transferred to Jaipur.

Chirayu Amin | New IPL Chairman

Following the suspension of Lalit Modi as IPL Commissioner yesterday, we hear today that Chirayu Amin has been appointed as interim Commissioner of the Indian Premier League. The Governing Council of the IPL met at the Board of Control for Cricket

in India headquarters and made their decision about Amin’s appointment today after discussing the role of Lalit Modi and the alleged regularities.

An article over on oneindia.in says that the BCCI will go public with the charges filed against Modi. Amin is now the BCCI Vice-President and IPL Governing Council member and is also the president of the Baroda Cricket Association. BCCI President Shashank Manohar said that Modi’s alleged misdemeanours have damaged the reputation not only of cricket administration in India, but also the game of cricket itself.

Modi has been given 15 days to respond and while he is under suspension is unable to take any part on the Board, the IPL, the Working Committee, and any other BCCI involvements. Meanwhile IPL franchises have apparently asked that Modi be given the opportunity to explain and are standing by him at present.

Did you know that Sachin Tendulkar loves to cook fried fish or that he cannot live without his iPod? On the cricket maestro's 37th birthday, we dug out some not-so well known facts about Tendlya.

The cricketer loves the game of Tennis. Tendulkar's idol is the American Tennis superstar-John McEnroe. During his young age, he argued and fought for McEnore with his colony friends who supported Swedish Bjorn Borg.

Sachin sported a head-band, sweat-band and a tennis racquet showing his staunch loyalty towards his idol. Even today, he loves to go for Wimbledon matches as an avid spectator and lover of the game.

He is always followed by the cameras and shutterbugs but the Master Blaster prefers to be on the other side of the camera. His passion for photography comes to the fore in the moments that he spends with his family - moments that Sachin loves to capture and treasure for life!

Sachin's agility is not restrained just to cricket. He was taught swimming in some half an hour by Manoj Prabhakar on the 1990 tour to England. The ambidextrous cricketer also likes to play table-tennis and carries his own racquet on tours. He is also fond of adventure sports.

He is the cynosure of all eyes but the stardom never got to Sachin whose humility is praised by all and sundry. Despite being a senior, Sachin's camaraderie with the young members of the team speaks volumes about his down-to-earth nature.

Far from being intimidated by him, the younger players even pull his leg on a lot of occasions. "If I crack jokes at someone they too have a right to crack jokes at me." says Sachin.

Sachin also admits to have learnt one of his greatest lessons off-the-pitch from his daughter Sarah. As Sachin and Anjali were preparing to celebrate Sarah's birthday, she said that she wanted to have a party at the slums of Govandi and share the goodies with the children there. The proud father decided to auction a half-day's coaching camp with the kids on behalf of an NGO.

Sachin's greatest hobby, according to his close friends, is music. He has a vast collection of western pop and serious music and spends every available leisure hour listening to his favourite artists. Among his favourite artistes are Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.

The swashbuckling batsman can toss in his favourite ingredients to cococt a scrumtious meal as well. Tendulkar can cook baingan bhartha but he likes cooking sea-food particularly fried fish. Sachin does not shy away from admitting the fact that he nibbles some of his home cooked delicacies while he is still preparing them! The Master Blaster sometimes makes tea for guests.

Of course the living legend's favourite gadget is an iPod, the first thing that goes into his bags every time he leaves for a cricket tour. He also carries video camera and still camera just to be able to preserve all his living moments that would serve as beautiful memories in the long run.

Tendulkar is passionate about cars. His love of cars began early. There was a drive-in theatre close to where Sachin lived from where he could see cars of all shapes and sizes. He absolutely loved the place as it was the only place where a young Sachin could see a movie yet not get out of the car.

A God-fearing man, Sachin frequents the Siddhivinayak temple to pay his obeisance to the Almighty whenever he can. On every occasion in Kolkata, Tendulkar has visited Kalighat a day ahead of his match. Earlier this year, Tendulkar's wish to pray at the famous Kalighat Kali Temple remained unfulfilled as his car was mobbed by a huge crowd and was forced to turn back.

He is hot as 'fire' on the ground and cool as 'ice' off it. He wishes to "improve" despite attaining "near-perfection". The Little Master is perhaps the "greatest" living cricketers of all times.

Ketan Desai Arrested by CBI

Ketan Desai the boss of MCI has been arrested by the CBI last night. The CBI suddenly entered the office of Desai and conducted the search.

Harsh Bahal, the CBI spokesperson said that the investigation bureau got the information that he along with his associate Jitender Pal Singh was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs two crore to recognise a college in Punjab.

The spokesperson added that Desai along with Singh and another associate Dr Kanwaljit Singh of Gyan Sagar Medical College in Punjab have been arrested by CBI on corruption charges.

It is reported that an associate of Ketan Desai was caught with Rs two crore in cash.

The raids were also conducted in Punjab, Delhi and Gujarat to trace Desai’s other associates.
