These two nations have defeated one another once each - Chile winning at home in 1960 and Israel claiming victory at home in 2007. Chile's best Davis Cup performance came in 1976 when it finished runner-up. Chile, having been without top player Fernando Gonzalez in 2009, lost to Croatia 5-0 but retained its place in the World Group after triumphing over Austria in the play-offs. Israel achieved its best ever result in 2009, reaching the semifinals for the first time after wins over Sweden and Russia. Spain, the eventual champion, ended Israel's run with a 4-1 victory in Murcia. |
