THE PREVIEW
These two nations traditionally prefer different surfaces - Sweden fast indoor and Argentina slow outdoor. In their previous four meetings, home advantage has proved the determining factor as they are currently tied at two wins apiece. Argentina won the most recent tie, a 4-1 victory in the quarterfinals in 2008. Sweden has a rich Davis Cup pedigree having won the title seven times between 1975 and 1998. In 2009, Sweden lost its first round tie against Israel 3-2 before beating Romania by the same score line to retain its place in the World Group. The Swedish team will welcome Thomas Enqvist as its new captain in 2010. Argentina is yet to win a title but has finished runner-up on three occasions, in 1981, 2006 and 2008. Czech Republic ended Argentina's challenge in 2009 with a 3-2 win in the quarterfinals in Ostrava. The South Americans had previously defeated Netherlands 5-0 in the first round. |
